Research Gateway Update

Research Gateway Update

Conflict of Interest (COI) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) Modules

Dear UCSF Research Community,

As announced in the May newsletter, the Research Gateway Project at UCSF is now underway. Its aim is to enhance transparency and collaboration between researchers and administration through an integrated suite of applications from Huron Research. This initiative will automate processes, expand reporting capabilities, and lessen the administrative load for all involved.

We are pleased to introduce the first module, the Research Gateway Conflict of Interest (COI) portal, set to launch in August 2024, replacing COI-Smart. This portal will feature a user-friendly interface and advanced functionalities to simplify the COI disclosure and management process. Coinciding with the portal’s launch, a UCSF COI policy update will mandate annual disclosures for all UCSF investigators, aligning with industry best practices and reducing administrative tasks for various researcher groups. Further details will be shared as the launch approaches.

The next module, the Research Gateway Institutional Review Board (IRB) management system, is scheduled for implementation in late FY26. It promises increased efficiency, enhanced performance, and better system reliability.

We appreciate the community’s efforts and are committed to supporting them through the new Research Gateway.
