Overview
AER supports researchers in modifying the EHR system (APeX) to meet the specific needs of their research projects.
APeX Enabled Research (AER) supports UCSF researchers in using the Epic EHR system (APeX) for their research projects. The team assists in securing grant funding, preparing realistic budgets, and providing both design and technical services. AER guides researchers through the complexities of governance and compliance requirements, enabling the implementation of algorithms, digital tools, or interventions.
Services we offer
- Consultation: Researchers can benefit from an initial complimentary consultation. This includes providing estimates and drafting letters of support for grant applications.
-
Design and Discovery: Utilize human-centered design approach to explore technical solutions, understand clinical workflows, develop user interface components & interactions, iteratively gather feedback, and test the usability and functionality of APeX digital tool implementation.
-
Technical Build: Help with implementing algorithms, changing order sets, creating digital tools, collecting data through patient forms, connecting external systems to APeX via API, and conducting randomized clinical trials with embedded/automated randomization.
- Governance and Compliance: Assistance with navigating governance steps and supporting data safety monitoring activities to ensure research compliance and integrity.
- Ready to use Tools: Leverage existing tools that have been built for a particular study. May require configuration and consultation.
