Overview
Robust infrastructure at scale to handle complex computational and data-intensive tasks for research.
To provide accessible and collaborative high-performance computing (HPC) resources to support biomedical and health science research at UCSF. This encompasses the Wynton cluster, and upcoming CoreHPC
To foster the growth and utilization of the Institutional HPC cluster through cooperative resource contribution and sharing, ensuring continuous expansion of compute power and resources for all UCSF researchers.
Offerings
Wynton @ UCSF
- Access to the Wynton cluster, a large shared co-op HPC cluster funded by UCSF and key research constituents
- Co-Op resource contribution model: Basic participation Wynton cluster is via a co-op model where general access is available, and researchers can contribute additional capacity to gain priority.
- Continuous growth: Continuous expansion the Wynton HPC environment enables more users and groups to join the clusters, resulting in increased compute power and resources for all members.
CoreHPC - Arriving in Spring of 2025
- A High-Performance Computing resource focused on AI and Data Science. The GPU-heavy CoreHPC cluster is a shared resource funded by UCSF with buy-in options for researchers. Co-hosting in the new Facility for Advanced Computing (FAC) allows interoperability between capacity storage and CoreHPC resources.
- Condo resource contribution model: Basic participation in the CoreHPC is via an access model with limited recharge for access to the cluster. Buy-in for additional capacity is via the "Condominium" model, where researchers purchase nodes from a predefined menu with a defined service life of approximately 5 years and pay small yearly maintenance and access fees.
- Tailored computing profiles, data, and packages: Computing profiles, data sets, and software packages suited to various biomedical and health science computing needs will be available, providing researchers with computing environments tailored to their needs.
